A goal in each half meant Accrington Stanley left the Hive Stadium empty-handed with Barnet securing the three points on Saturday in League Two.
The Reds had some good chances, including Isaac Heath hitting the bar, but they couldn’t find the breakthrough.
John Doolan kept the same starting XI which lost to table-topping Walsall the previous week, with Charlie Caton, who had scored two in two, hoping to continue his rich vein of form. Striker Paddy Madden returned to the bench after injury.
The wind played a big part in the first half, with the ball largely up in the air.
Idris Kanu was a threat for the Bees from the off and he had a shot on eight minutes which was not far off the target.
Josh Woods had a couple of early efforts, but they did not trouble Bees keeper Ceiran Slicker.
Stanley’s Ollie Wright was in action on 14 minutes, sticking out his leg to superbly keep out Callum Stead’s close-range effort.
The home side continued to look dangerous with Ryan Glover’s cross inches away from connecting with Lee Ndlovu on 20 minutes.
And the Bees went ahead on 21 minutes when Kanu’s deflected cross from the left found Stead eight yards out and he hit the ball first time past Wright.
Stanley could have levelled five minutes later when Isaac Heath’s cross found Caton but he fired over the bar.
Charlie Brown fired off target, while the visitors came close again on 40 minutes when Woods raced into the area and fired goalwards from an angle but it just could not find the far corner of the net.
The Reds had a let-off, though, on 41 minutes when Kanu’s cross found Adam Senior and he had a free header but guided it wide before Glover headed over in the last action of the half.
There were no changes at the break and the Reds had a decent chance to level on 52 minutes when Everton loan winger Heath weaved his way into the area and found the stretching Seamus Conneely, but the captain could not find the target.
Barnet still looked dangerous and did have spells of pressure without testing Wright, Kanu’s 20-yard strike narrowly wide on the hour mark.
Boss Doolan made two substitutions on 66 minutes with Madden and Liam Coyle coming on.
Stanley had another great chance to level when Heath pulled the ball back for Joe Bauress on 73 minutes, but the Burnley man could not find the target.
The Reds were again unlucky as, after forcing a series of corners, Heath’s deflected strike hit the bar.
The Bees then made their next chance count on 78 minutes when Glover got the ball, and found Senior who stroked the ball back to him in the area and Glover placed the ball beyond Wright.
