Valerien Ismael has hit out at social media abuse in football following criticism of Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.

Augustus Kargbo was the subject of much ire online after his role in Swansea City's winner. He gave the ball away and his reaction to doing so was picked up by lots of supporters, who were unimpressed.

Ismael did not defend Kargbo's error and has held talks with him about the mistake. However, he did highlight the problems with social media in football generally and the abuse those working in it receive. Kargbo has deleted his Instagram account, seemingly as a result of this.

"Mistakes happen but the reaction on social media is a big problem generally," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"Players, managers, get abused. Social media should have been a tool to help people stay connected. Instead, it's a weapon used against each other.

"You can't take anything seriously. When it's about racism, family, it's nothing to do with the sport. Anything can happen in football, you win games, you lose games but it's always the same. It will pass whether it's good or bad.

"For me, it's dangerous the behaviour of some people. It is about education and something deeper than talking about football and a player who made a mistake.

"He has a chance with another game to put it right. We are missing positivity. The sun is shining, so everything is good or it's raining and everything is bad. This is not my world or my thoughts. We are out of social media and not listening to things outside. It is generally a massive problem in football."

Ismael did clarity that Kargbo hasn't been racially abused and he was talking generally about issues in society with social media.

The head coach again reiterated that Rovers are shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to winning matches. He felt they were deserving of something from the game but have only themselves to blame with individual errors.

"It can't happen but I have spoken with the player very clearly; it's not about making a mistake, that can happen," he continued.

"It happens in football. The reaction after that, we had the possibility to stop the goal if you come back with 100% mentality and make sure you want to fix it.

"Our recovery wasn't good on that day. We must change that and make sure the mentality is right. The players understood the message so I hope we'll see another reaction when we make a mistake

"We made mistakes and we got punished. We should win the game with the performance we put in during the second half but if you make those mistakes, you put yourself in a difficult position to come back.

"I thought how we competed was very good and we showed desire to win the game. Now we need to stop making silly mistakes because you don't get help from anyone.

"We have to deal with the adversity which is complicated when you're making mistakes."
