The EFL have issued an update on the process after Rovers’ abandoned game against Ipswich Town and when a decision will be made over what happens next.
Saturday’s match at Ewood Park was postponed after around 80 minutes of play due to a waterlogged pitch.
At that point, Rovers were leading 1-0 thanks to Todd Cantwell’s penalty and Ipswich had been reduced to 10 men after Jacob Greaves was shown a straight red card for a foul on Yuki Ohashi.
The players were taken off the pitch by referee Stephen Martin as the pitch deteriorated in the torrential conditions and the ball started to hold up significantly.
The officials re-emerged to carry out further tests but it was not bouncing or rolling, and the decision was made to call off the contest.
EFL regulations state that any league match which falls short of 90 minutes’ duration may be ordered to count as a completed fixture, may be replayed in full or may be replayed in part, on whatever terms and conditions the board determine.
It has now been confirmed that the clubs have until 4pm to make their final representations and the matter will be discussed by the board before the end of the week.
An official update read: “Following the abandonment of the Sky Bet Championship fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town, the two clubs were given a deadline of 4pm today (Wednesday) to make any final representations to the league.
“Once in receipt of the submissions, the matter will be discussed by the EFL board before the end of this week, with the outcome to be confirmed shortly thereafter.”
