Valerien Ismael has issued an update on Makhtar Gueye’s future following the arrival of Andri Gudjohnsen.
The Iceland international joined in the final days of the window to bolster the strike department at Ewood Park.
Gueye has been attracting interest from Turkey, where the transfer window stays open longer than in England.
“It is clear that he is aware that another player’s coming in in the same position and there is big competition now for him or for Yuki (Ohashi),” Ismael told Radio Lancashire.
“But it is up to him to take the challenge or see what you want to do. We have to think about the club, what it the best thing to do for us as well.
“Only two or three markets are still open until the end of the week. As I say, we have to think what is best for the club and if he has to leave, we have to make sure that at least we get some compensation.”
The head coach admits that the different dates for windows around the globe are not ideal as he aims to focus on the Championship campaign.
“Normally after the first competition game, the windows are to be shut and it is simple like that,” he continued.

“For sure, you have to take which competition – maybe the Premier League, you are one week later.
“But I think in all competitions, with the first official game, the window has to be shut and it avoids all the trouble we still have now.
“The club and the fans just want calm and to be focused on the season and make sure that we know what our squad is.
“We are in September now and the window is open since June. Waiting at what is going on now, who is leaving again, and in January you go again with the same show.
“It makes everything difficult for us to deal with the situation but as long as the player is unhappy and wants to leave, you have to sit, discuss and see what is the best.”
Ismael doesn’t think that Gueye is necessarily unhappy at Rovers but admits it is only natural for players to want regular minutes.
“He has trained well, he is committed, but he wants to play and that is a normal process for him,” he assessed.
“Last week, we had an internal game and he scored two goals so he just showed his quality.
"But we need to have competition and a certain way to play when we expect some numbers from our players. At some point, it is always the same - the truth is always on the pitch.”
The shot stopper has not been included in a matchday squad this season, with youngsters Nick Michalski and Felix Goddard providing back-up to Balazs Toth.
Rudy Gestede says Pears could still have a role to play this season and isn't concerned by the goalkeeping options if Toth was to pick up an injury or come out of the side.
“Pearsy is still in the building so we believe that he has got a chance to play this season if Toth is getting injured or if the performances are not at the level that we expect. The competition is there,” he said.
“We have to keep pushing and pushing from the back so the young players or the ‘number two’… that is the Championship.
“Fourty six games, plus the cup, it is relentless. We need everybody to stay fit and committed for the club.
“It is not a concern, we think we have got four good goalkeepers at the club – two more experienced and two young ones who are pushing to play.”
When asked if he had expected Pears to leave this summer, Gestede replied: “I don’t expect him to leave.
“As I said before, if an offer is coming, the player wants to go, the agent wants the player to go and both clubs find an agreement, it can happen for any player.”
