Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the signing of Iceland international striker Andri Gudjohnsen.

The 23-year-old has penned a three-year deal at Ewood Park, with an option for a further 12 months, and arrives for a reported fee of 2million euros.

He is the son of former Barcelona and Chelsea striker Eidur and has 34 caps for the Icelandic national team, scoring nine goals. He scored five goals in 32 appearances for Gent in the Belgian Pro League.

Gudjohnsen has been tracked by Lancashire rivals Preston North End this summer but they were reportedly unwilling to meet Gent's price tag. Rovers have now swooped in and completed a deal.

The new signing had spells with Barcelona and Real Madrid during his youth career, signing his first professional deal with the latter.

He was named in their Champions League squad in 2021 before heading to Swedish club IFK Norrkoping the following year.

Gudjohnsen had a loan spell at Danish Superliga side Lyngby before heading to Gent last year.

After competing his switch to Ewood Park, he will now link up with the national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and France.
