Former Blackburn Rovers promotion-winner, Corry Evans, has retired from football aged 35.

Evans has been without a club since leaving Oldham Athletic in the summer after securing his fourth career promotion. The Latics returned to the Football League in the play-offs, adding to Evans' CV, which already included the same feat with Rovers, Sunderland and Hull City.

He accepted a job with Northern Ireland's Under-21s earlier this week and has now formally retired from the game.

"After an incredible journey, the time has come to hang up my boots," he wrote in a post on Instagram.

"From coming through the Academy at Manchester United, to winning promotions with Hull City and Blackburn Rovers, captaining Sunderland to promotion at Wembley, a short spell at Bradford City followed by a Wembley win with Oldham. I’ve loved every step along the way!

"Representing my country 72 times, and playing at Euro 2016, will always be one of my proudest achievements.

"A huge thank you to my family, teammates, coaches and the fans who’ve supported me throughout the highs and lows. It’s been an unforgettable ride."

Evans earned  69 caps for his country as well as more than 200 appearances for Rovers in a seven-year spell.
