Blackburn Rovers boss Valerien Ismael would not comment on Lewis Travis' absence from the team against Birmingham City.

The club blocked media from asking about the captain at Friday's pre-match press conference but stated questions would be allowed after the match against Blues.

However, Ismael refused to answer any of the questions posed to him by BBC Radio Lancashire or The Lancashire Telegraph.

The head coach did apologise for doing so, saying: "You know me, but we won't make any comment on the contract situations on players, at the minute. Sorry for today."

The Lancashire Telegraph understands that progress has been made in resolving Travis' future after a stalemate earlier in the week.

Derby's second bid of £1.5million plus bonuses was rejected and there had been little movement with Rovers not budging from their valuation and John Eustace's side not upping their offer.

However, there is a growing likelihood that the midfielder will become a Derby County player, with talks ongoing between the two clubs.

As reported previously, Derby have offered Travis 'life-changing money' which exceeds Rovers' wage structure. The club claim they have offered a competitive contract whilst sources close to the player claim no formal offer, made in writing, has been submitted.
