Blackburn Rovers have rejected a bid from Derby County for captain Lewis Travis.

The Lancashire Telegraph can reveal that the Rams' first official offer falls short of the club's valuation and has been knocked back. The Athletic first reported that Derby had lodged a bid at £1.5million.

Derby have been circling around the Rovers captain all summer with John Eustace keen to be reunited with the midfielder. Travis would be the fourth ex-Rovers player to move to Pride Park, following Danny Batth, Andi Weimann and Owen Beck, plus backroom staff.

Rovers insist that Travis will not be sold unless their valuation is met, as was the case with Callum Brittain when Middlesbrough came knocking. However, Valerien Ismael has reiterated that all players with one year left on their deal could depart for the right money.

Travis is at Ewood Park for Rovers' Carabao Cup first round clash with Bradford City. Despite the constant speculation, the skipper has shown no sign of having his head turned.

The 27-year-old is unlikely to rock the boat in the same way as Brittain did. However, a move can't be ruled out with the captain yet to commit his long-term future despite discussions over an extension.

Travis is already one of Rovers' top earners and the club insist they have made an offer to keep him. Deals have also been offered to Sondre Tronstad and Dom Hyam, plus Brittain before his exit, and none have agreed terms.

Speaking ahead of the Bradford clash, Ismael addressed the speculation around Travis by saying: "At the minute, they are our players so there is nothing to speculate around that.

"It was the same situation with Tyrhys Dolan, Callum, Sonny, Trav and Dom Hyam. We are in a difficult situation as a club because we want to extend the players and it hasn't happened.

"Now we have to chase the situation and make decisions. What is best for the club? At the minute, they're our players so we'll see what happens.

"Until the end of the transfer window, everything can happen. The best thing, the smart thing to do for a club at some point, is to get at least the value of the player you think to get and to reinvest the money. This is a business as well.

"So every time we have to assess the players on a case-by-case basis. We have had some offers from clubs for our players, but they didn't want to leave or the offer was not right."
