The Anthony Axford North West Cricket League Conference Premiership was back under way last weekend with all home teams gaining victory in match week one.
Last season’s champions, Farnworth, claimed victory at Bridgeman Park as they hosted Feniscowles firsts.
The hosts batted first and scored 225-8, with Aaqib Javed top-scoring with 46. In reply, Feniscowles were dismissed for 127 despite the top scorer, Marc Brennan, reaching 50 as Farnworth’s Sajid Mahmood took 4-21.
Barrowford firsts also had a comfortable victory as they hosted Read at the Bull Holme Oval. The visitors put the hosts into bat first, which saw them score 256-9, with Jahangir Babar top-scoring with 52. Barrowford then bowled the visitors out for 142, with Imran Karim taking 4-26.
Newly-promoted Walkden lost as they visited Little Lever. The latter scored 254-9, with John Mooney top-scoring with 49, as Nehmaan Rashid took 4-55 for the visitors. Walkden were then dismissed for 191 after the aforementioned John Mooney shone with the ball, taking 5-34.
The other newly-promoted team, Padiham, also failed to win as they visited Cherry Tree. The visitors elected to bat first, which saw them bowled out for 164 as Cherry Tree’s Daniel Lord took 4-28. The hosts then won the game six wickets down, which was largely thanks to an unbeaten 68 from captain, Harry Stevenson.
Burnley Belvedere secured victory over Salesbury. The latter dismissed Burnley for 154, and in reply, Salesbury was bowled out for 139.
In Conference Two, Ewan Phillips was top scorer with 34 in Blackrod’s 138, Hashim Akhtar taking 3-31 for Astley Bridge. Phillips then took 3-38 and Tony Tipping 4-28 as Bridge were dismissed for 116.
Hafeez Ul Wahab struck 61 in Barnoldswick’s 202-9. Charlie Knight took 4-59 for Lostock, who went on to win by six wickets, Stephen Kaye 69.
Jabbran Sajid (132) and Abrar Sarwar (117) rescued Foulridge from 40-3 with a 237-run partnership, their team ending on 305-9 despite Dinusha Jayasekara finishing with a creditable 7-73. He then recorded a half-century in Brinscall’s 102, Sarwar taking 3-16.
On Sunday, Graeme Kershaw (3-26) and Charlie Windsor (3-19) helped dismiss Burnley Belvedere for 99, Ribblesdale Wanderers going on to win by eight wickets.
In Conference Three, there were three wickets apiece for Sebastian Wilcox and Will Owen for Eagley as Chatburn reached 228-9 in their 45 overs. Mark Nerenberg top-scored with a half-century and Jack Ashton and Michael Wright added 46 for the last wicket. Eagley responded with 89 - Jamie Birtwell Jones (5-29) and Chris Mulhearn (3-15).
Adam Rodzoch, with 73, and Marcus Dawson and Cliff Collings, both 68, took Tonge to 324-5. Dawson then took 6-34 and Rob Tully 3-32 as Feniscowles ended on 73.
Edward Burron (3-36), Amal Singe (4-48) and Ethan Ditchfield (3-9) combined to dismiss Foulridge for 121, Whalley going on to win by seven wickets.
Mohmedruhan Tirmizi contributed 143, including a century partnership with Steve Pellowe in Kearsley’s 237-7.
Earby’s top bowler was Declan Harrison with 3-63. From 141-4 Earby, then slipped to 184 all out, Tirmizi taking 3-63 and Mohmed Hira 4-38.
