An East Lancashire swimming club has announced the appointment of two co-chairpersons for the first time in its 35-year history.
Elizabeth Lord and Alison Armour officially assumed the roles at Darwen Masters this month, marking a new chapter for the long-established organisation, which operates from Darwen Leisure Centre.
Founded in 1988, Darwen Masters has served as a hub for adult swimmers from across the town and surrounding areas, welcoming individuals aged from 18 to over 80.

The club is part of the wider international Masters swimming community.
The term 'Masters' refers to the age of participants rather than their ability, and the club is open to any adult capable of swimming approximately one kilometre — 40 lengths of the pool.
"As the incoming co-chair, I hope to help extend swimming opportunities across Darwen and ensure all our members—regardless of age—can pursue their swimming goals while enjoying the experience.”
As a Swim England-affiliated organisation and a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the Charity Commission, Darwen Masters offers structured, high-quality coaching during its twice-weekly sessions, held on Monday and Wednesday from 8pm to 9pm.

A monthly subscription is required, with concessionary rates available for eligible members.
The club continues to encourage new members to try up to three training sessions before committing to membership.
