Tyrhys Dolan remains an enigma at Blackburn Rovers but David Lowe believes he should stay at the club to continue his development.

The 23-year-old has endured an up-and-down campaign. His ongoing contract stand-off with the club has irked some supporters and it remains likely that Dolan will sit down and assess his options in the summer.

But that situation does not reflect the person Dolan is; players can often be tarred with a certain brush because of off-the-field matters. He is an intelligent person, who is engaging to deal with, has a brilliant attitude and is constantly praised by his coaches.

Rovers fans would like to see more output and rightly so. His performance against Plymouth Argyle again posed the question: 'Why don't you do this more often?' His four goals this season do not reflect his talent levels.

Lowe has worked with Dolan since he arrived at Ewood Park, five years ago. He would like to see him stay and commit his future to Rovers.

"I agree, I think it's the best place for him," Lowe told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"I've worked with him quite a long time, since he was a young boy and he came into the building and he's gone from strength to strength and developed and I think it would be nice for him to stay at the football club.

"He seems to enjoy playing here, I know myself and all the coaches enjoy working with him at Brockhall so hopefully he'll be able to stay at the club. I think he's a huge asset to the club, to be honest."

Dolan's best position has been something of a conundrum too. He began this season as a number 10 but has looked at his best on the flanks. Right-wing has delivered his most impressive performances, such as the weekend and the home win against Leeds United.

Dolan is not shy about wanting to rise to the challenge either. His pre-season message was about emulating Sam Szmodics and filling his shoes as the talisman.

"I've worked with the boy a long time now and he's enthusiastic, he's passionate," Lowe continued.

"He needs to add more goals to his game, I think he knows that and hopefully, he will do that from now until the end of the season. But he's a terrific kid, he wants to get better, he wants to work hard so I'm really pleased for him that he managed to get a goal today.

"As I say, we can only keep working with him, he can only keep working to see if he can get better. He's certainly got the attitude and the mentality to want to work to improve his game."
