Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.

Balazs Toth - 5

Might be harsh but I felt he could've done better for the first goal. Had no chance with the second and didn't have many saves to make outside of that.

Callum Brittain - 7

Had a bit of joy down the right side without being at his absolute best. Taken off at half-time, presumably with an injury.

Dom Hyam - 6

Won his duels but the defence were not as water-tight as usual, by their high standards.

Danny Batth - 6

Went off after sustaining a knock a few minutes beforehand. Didn't do much wrong but two frustrating goals to give away from close range.

Owen Beck - 6

A more energetic performance from the youngster but it was another tough test against Van Ewijk.

John Buckley - 6

Didn't build on his impressive display at Oxford. Wasn't bad but didn't stamp his authority either.

Joe Rankin-Costello - 7

Added some energy in midfield but then had to switch to right-back in the second half. Picked up a knock but carried on for the team.

Tyrhys Dolan - 6

Started brightly and sent a good cross over for Gueye which was well saved. Drifted out of the game and was hooked on the hour.

Todd Cantwell - 7

Better than the weekend. Tried to get on the ball in deeper areas to make things happen. Just didn't fall for anyone.

Ryan Hedges - 6

Offered some width down the left and was a bit more lively. But still not enough to warrant more than 60 minutes.

Makhtar Gueye - 8

Comfortably Rovers' best player. Linked play, won headers and had two decent efforts on goal saved by Dovin in goal.

Substitutes:

Adam Forshaw (Brittain, 45') - 6

Did ok after coming on. Game state meant Rovers had a lot of the ball and he kept it simple.

Dion Sanderson (Batth, 59') - 6

Tried to take up advanced positions to offer an option on the ball.

Andi Weimann (Hedges, 59') - 6

Ineffectual after coming on. Volleyed one effort out for a throw-in.

Harry Leonard (Dolan, 59') - 6

Didn't see a great amount of the ball. Feels like he's lost a bit of momentum in the last 10 days.

Amario Cozier-Duberry (Buckley, 59') - 6

Couldn't get into the game off the left and then went down for treatment.

Unused substitutes: Hilton, Litherland, Edmondson, O'Grady-Macken

Referee: Oliver Langford

Attendance: 12,819
