Yuki Ohahsi is facing a month on the sidelines with an ankle injury picked up against Leeds United.
The Japanese forward went for a scan on Thursday after picking up the knock on New Year's Day. He was absent, as expected, from the matchday squad against Burnley.
It is bad news in the short-term, with Ohashi now looking at missing Blackburn Rovers' next seven to nine matches over the next five weeks.
That leaves them incredibly light up front with only Makhtar Gueye and Harry Leonard as recognised number nine options.

"Yeah, he's going to be out for four to five weeks, I think," Eustace told The Lancashire Telegraph.
"That is a big blow. I think today's game would have been ideal for him, I really do. Again, it is a blow and something we have to assess. Absolutely (we need bodies sooner rather than later)."
Todd Cantwell surprisingly started the match against Burnley after missing Leeds with illness. He trained on Friday and Eustace therefore felt he was fit to play.
"Todd did a bit on the grass yesterday and it was good to have him back out there," he added.
"He started the game well. We need to get him fit and keep him training. The bits of good play we have usually come through Todd."
