Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris insisted it was a “good point” at Ewood Park despite letting a lead slip in the final stages.

The Black Cats had been on course for victory after Chris Rigg and Wilson Isidor struck in a ruthless four-minute spell.

Sunderland were second-best during the opening 45 minutes, but Le Bris was pleased with their reaction after the break.

“We can analyse and assess what happened exactly but in the end, it’s a good point,” he told Chronicle Live.

“It was clear during the first half, the level of our team wasn’t the one expected. We were probably at 60 or 70 per cent of our best potential.

“It was clear at half-time that it wasn’t a tactical issue or something like that, it was just a question of our level and we were not at our best level.

“If we wanted to be competitive in the game, we had to raise our standards and we did it.

“It shows we have a good potential and the ability to react, but probably today it wasn’t possible to play a more consistent game.

“It was very unstable and it was a positive for our opponent because were still unstable, with many counter attacks both ways and they scored in the end.”

Le Bris’ side are now on a five-game unbeaten run in the league and sit four points off the automatic promotion spots.

“It is not a bad result against a very strong team with a really good dynamic. It did not surprise me, the intensity Blackburn showed, because it is no coincidence they are high in the table as well,” he reflected.

“They were at home, pushing hard in the opening minutes, but we should have handled that period better. It wasn’t our best first half, and we struggled under their pressure.

“In the second half, we reacted well, which shows our good mentality and ability to play quality football.”

Goalscorer Rigg came off with an injury during the final stages. “It is too early to say what it is but hopefully it’s nothing serious,” Le Bris clarified.
