Dilan Markanday has not ruled out a permanent move to Chesterfield after reiterating how much he is enjoying his loan spell.

Blackburn Rovers have a January recall option on the 22-year-old, who scored his seventh goal of the season at the weekend. John Eustace has said Rovers will assess Markanday's future in the New Year.

Rovers themselves want another wide player, but with a focus on the left, as well as a number nine. In an exclusive interview with The Lancashire Telegraph last month, Markanday hinted that he'd prefer to stay at Chesterfield for the season to continue his development.

He has again reiterated the importance of his development by playing regular first-team football. With his contract up in the summer, though Rovers have a one-year option, the winger did not rule out a permanent move to Chesterfield when quizzed.

"This is my first proper season playing, to be honest. I haven't managed to get much game time in previous seasons or get on the score sheet," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"This feels like my first proper season playing. I am really enjoying it here and I hope I'm repaying the club for bringing me here.

"Ultimately, I want to be playing at the highest level possible but I don’t want to stunt my development at the same time as well.

"It is a conversation to be had with the club but I am enjoying my time here and, at the minute, it would be a shame to sort of stunt that."

"I would consider every option I have. I would consider every door that is open," he added on the prospect of joining the Spireites permanently.

For Markanday, the loan has been a huge success so far. There is also the possibility of Rovers sending him out into League One, though that would be a risky strategy given how settled he appears.

Chesterfield moved back into the top seven after his goal helped them to a 2-0 win at Carlisle United.

"I am buzzing to score again, it has topped off a great week for us," Markanday said.

"I can't complain with another goal. Carlisle are a very good team, I was thinking 'How are they bottom of the table?' They posed a threat and we had to be on our ‘A-game’ today because these can always be tricky games. Very happy with the three points.

"We have great players and t was a great team performance on and off the ball. We have had to dig in and we are very happy. It tops off a great week for us.

"The second goal was important, it took the game away from them a little bit. It was tough for them to come back into the game after that. We worked our socks off and just saw the game out.”

"We want to push on,” he added. “There have been opportunities where we have put one or two games together and then sort of faded off. We want to make a real impact now in this busy period to really put our stamp in the league and keep climbing up.

"Keep going. As you said, we try not to look at the league table too much but we're in the play-offs now. We have to keep going and keep working as hard as we can."
