Steve Waggott has revealed Blackburn Rovers are still finalising budgets for the summer transfer window with Venky's.

Rovers are still unsure of their league status with two matches to go but a victory over Coventry City this weekend, coupled with favourable results elsewhere, could end any doubts.

Despite last weekend's disappointment, the odds remain in Rovers' favour to avoid relegation, though they will need something from their final two matches.

Rovers' lack of clarity over which division they will play in has therefore had a knock-on effect on discussions around budgets for next campaign.

Speaking at the latest Rovers Fans' Forum, Waggott was quizzed on potential playing budgets for the summer. He explained that whilst initial discussions have taken place with Venky's, the board are awaiting input from John Eustace about which area of the squad need to be strengthened.

With Eustace's mind firmly fixed on keeping Rovers up, those discussions are yet to finalise. Director of Football Gregg Broughton told The Lancashire Telegraph in March that he was hopeful Rovers would be able to buy players this summer, should they retain their league status.

The sale of Adam Wharton plus the impending fruition of a sell-on clause from David Raya's permanent move to Arsenal will bolster the club's accounts. There will also be increased revenue generated by the EFL's new TV deal with Sky Sports.

Waggott also admitted the club are braced for offers for top-scorer Sam Szmodics, though Rovers want to retain his services. The Championship's top-scorer signed a long-term deal last November but has been linked with Premier League and Scottish clubs.

The Rovers chief also reiterated that the club's recruitment team would continue to look at young, exciting prospects, such as Igor Tyjon. The 16-year-old has impressed in the youth set-up and was recently on the bench at Bristol City.

Waggott again reiterated that delays to Venky's court hearing in Delhi will not impact Rovers. The owners have been told they can continue to send funds to the club if they match every pound with a personal guarantee.

Details for 2024/25 season tickets will be released after Rovers' league status has been confirmed. Head of Consumer, Fraser Read, explained the club are 'seeking to find a middle ground' between affordable pricing and the need to meet financial targets.

The club acknowledged that the new EFL TV deal with Sky could cause a reduction in season ticket and matchday sales. Revenue from UK-based streaming will be replaced by Sky's coverage though the club are obviously compensated in the new deal for that.

Rovers will once again be heading to Austria for a pre-season camp, as they did last year under Jon Dahl Tomasson. Waggott confirmed that the club would be releasing details for supporters 'shortly' so fans can make travel arrangements.

Safe standing at Ewood Park will have to be self/crowd funded with Rovers confirming no external funding was available. However, work at Ewood Park is planned to renew different areas of the stadium. New lifts, an underground pitch boiler, the repainting of roofs and other jobs at the ground will cost around £3million.
