Blackburn Rovers will assess Scott Wharton ahead of facing Sheffield Wednesday with the defender still struggling with a back issue.

The centre-back has been taken off at half-time in each of Rovers' last two matches after suffering from a back spasm.

Wharton is still 'touch and go' with the problem despite a week's rest, putting him in doubt for Sunday's huge game at Ewood Park.

Eustace did not rule the defender out though after he partially trained with the group on Thursday.

"Scott has been struggling with his back, he's been on the grass a little bit today," Eustace said.

"He will be touch and go for the weekend. He's been great since I have been here so if he doesn't make the game, it will be a big miss.

"Coming off at half-time, it could've caused us problems but Fads (McFadzean) came in and he was magnificent as he has been since I've been here. He didn't let anyone down."

"We have to look who is fit and the availability and where we can hurt teams," he added on whether he'd stick with a five-man defence.

"We're very lucky that we can be flexible in either system. We have a game plan which we have in every game and we're looking forward to the challenge."

Eustace also confirmed that Yasin Ayari and Andrew Moran had returned to training this week and would be in contention for the matchday squad. Zak Gilsenan, though, is out after picking up a knock.
