Ben Chrisene says Blackburn Rovers learn from mistakes against Preston North End to ensure they beat Sunderland.

Rovers blitzed their opponents with four goals in an emphatic 26-minute spell, starting with Sam Szmodics' quickfire brace in the first half.

Though John Eustace's side were in control at half-time, Sunderland were expected to come out and try to reduce the deficit in the second half.

But unlike when they held a two-goal lead in February last month, Rovers killed the game off by adding a third two minutes after the restart. That knocked the stuffing out of Sunderland and ensured Rovers controlled the remainder of the game.

"It's exactly what we needed, results-wise, we want to keep them coming," Chrisene said.

"We know that's not it. Going from the Ipswich game, we were disappointed with losing after how played, particularly in the second half.

"Although results haven't come, we've been playing well. Everyone is very happy at the moment.

"We have to take credit for the goals, we punished their mistakes and we're capable of scoring good goals. We have to show the end product to do it.

"The front four were unbelievable and we have to try and do that every game. That's easier said than done!

"You have to take the chances to relax yourself and kill the game. Even at 4-0, we should've not conceded, there was a lack of concentration.

"We spoke at half-time that they'd come out second half and they'd still believe. We were 2-0 at Preston and we weren't going to make the same mistake again. We want to carry this on in the next few games.

"A lot of people have written us off because of the fixtures we have but we're going in confident. The performance against Ipswich and today showed we can do it against anyone."

Chrisene was introduced after 20 minutes with Harry Pickering forced off with a hamstring injury. He adapted quickly and played an important role in the opener, exchanging passes with Tyrhys Dolan down the left to create the space for Szmodics to score.

"I was fortunate enough to slot in ok," he said on his own display.

"The gaffer always says to the subs that when you're on the bench, you have to be ready. At any point, you could come on and you have to influence the game.

"Even though I don't want Picks to be injured you have to be ready. I hope he's alright because he's a big player for this team.

"When you come on, you can shy away but I showed my game. We all stuck together and played well.

"For me, it's a learning curve, coming in during January is harder because the boys have been together a long time. It takes time.

"Everyone came together and we know what we have to do. I've made sure I've been following the lads, we have to show that desire to stay up.

"We don't want to be down here but we are here. We have to stay up and keep playing like this to get the results.

"It's come from the gaffer, he's told us to get together. As much as skill and tactics are important, it's also about being together and the passion you show. It's two parts to the game and we have to do both."
