Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.

Aynsley Pears - 6

Made a couple of routine stops but got fortunate with one poor piece of footwork as he played the ball to Roberts. Helpless for the goal, turned in by Dozzell from close range.

Dom Hyam - 6

Won his headers and was pretty solid on the right side of the defence.

Kyle McFadzean - 8

Rovers' best player on the night. Looks at home in the middle of the back three, organising and instructing those around him. Defended well and his distribution was good.

Ben Chrisene - 5

Had spells where he looked composed and others where he struggled. Was let off by Dembele after failing to deal with a cross from the opposite side.

Callum Brittain - 6

Worked hard but wasn't really able to get into the the final third to try and provide for the team.

Sondre Tronstad - 5

Covered plenty of ground but didn't look after the ball as well as he can do. Rovers needed someone to put their foot on it, at times.

Joe Rankin-Costello - 6

Forced off in the first half after failing to shake off an earlier knock. Hopefully nothing too serious.

Ryan Hedges - 6

Worked very diligently defensively but lacked his usual deftness in the final third.

Sam Szmodics - 6

Had one sight of goal where he tested Ruddy with an early strike. Wasn't really in the game with Birmingham pushing Rovers back.

Tyrhys Dolan - 7

Works so hard off the ball and had some nice touches. If anyone looked likely to create an opening, it would've been Dolan.

Sam Gallagher - 6

Again, ran his socks off but just didn't get much service.

Substitutes:

Jake Garrett (Rankin-Costello, 37') - 6

Didn't do much to influence the game positively or negatively after coming on.

Connor O'Riordan (Hedges, 72') - 6

Went on the right of the back three as he did at the weekend.

Andrew Moran (Dolan, 72') - 6

Couldn't help Rovers get back into the game.

Semir Telalovic (Gallagher, 82') - N/A

Should have scored with the last kick of the game. Header at the back post kept out by Ruddy.

Arnor Sigurdsson (McFadzean, 82') - N/A

Clever flick-on to create the chance for Telalovic.

Unused substitutes: Wahlstedt, Fleck, Ayari, Markanday.
