Blackburn Rovers are set to appoint John Eustace as their new boss in a whirlwind 24 hours at Ewood Park.

At the time of writing, Jon Dahl Tomasson's impending exit has not been formally confirmed but that is just a matter of time. The Danish head coach won't be in the dugout against Stoke City.

Instead, Eustace could be the man leading Rovers out, should the relevant paperwork be completed in time. If not, Damien Johnson and/or David Lowe will likely lead the time with the former Birmingham City boss watching on.

After being wedded to Tomasson's style and philosophy, Rovers' players will now need to adapt to new methods as they bid to arrest a run of one win in 11 Championship games.

So what can the players, fans and media expect from Eustace? We caught up with Birmingham Live's Blues Reporter, Alex Dicken, to find out more.

What can Rovers fans expect from Eustace as a person?

As a person, they don’t come much better. He will get the players onside and make them feel wanted.

Every Blues player always spoke very highly of Eustace because he always had their backs. He can be quite guarded, especially in interviews, but he was always good to deal with from a media perspective.

I had the pleasure of watching him coach a few times and I was always impressed. He is a nice guy, but he can be firm and authoritative when required.

What's his style of football/preferred system?

I think we were just starting to see what Eustace was capable of when Blues sacked him. He played 3-5-2 and 4-2-3-1 formations during his time with Birmingham.

There was always a defensive element to each system and Blues were largely a counter-attacking side under Eustace. He always struck me as a coach who makes sensible decisions based on personnel.

Does he have a reputation for developing/working with young players?

No manager gave more minutes to players aged 20 and under in the Championship last season.

He loved Alfie Chang and George Hall in particular and helped them break into the Blues’ first team. He will happily develop young players who are first-team ready.

Are you surprised he's taken this job on?

I think he’s a good fit for Blackburn. He had to firefight at Birmingham City last season and he will no doubt draw on those experiences.

I know he is based in Birmingham but Blackburn isn’t an awful commute when done at the right times.

What sort of reception will he get on Tuesday night at St Andrew's?

I actually think he will get a respectful reception. Blues fans are appreciative of the job Eustace did and most - if not all - of them didn’t think Wayne Rooney should have replaced him.

There won’t be any malice towards him. Eustace’s presence will make what would have been a fairly mundane fixture an exciting one on paper. Blues owner Tom Wagner is due to fly in from America to watch that game too.
