Blackburn Rovers Women recorded their first league victory in three matches after a nervy 1-0 win away at London City Lionesses.

Lucy Sheppard scored the only goal of the match as Simon Parker's side secured their first win in the Women's Super League 2 since November.

Rovers have mainly been involved in the Women's Super League Cup where they had lost three of their last four. Back-to-back defeats in the league to Charlton Athletic and Sunderland had also meant it'd been a while since they took home three points.

They could've been behind after less than five minutes in this game too. Danielle Carter's spot-kick was excellently saved by Alex Brooks to keep the score level.

Sheppard then scored the decisive goal of the game, scoring against the club she left in the summer to join Rovers. She put her new side in front in the 41dt minute, latching onto the ball and racing clear of the defence to slot it home.

Rovers then missed a penalty of their own to make the win more comfortable. Goal-scorer Sheppard was taken down but Katie Bradley couldn't convert from 12 yards.
