Burnley have signed Maxime Esteve and Lorenz Assignon on loan deals from Montpellier and Rennes respectively.

France Under-21 international Esteve has made more than 50 appearances over the past two-and-a-half seasons.

He was in the stands at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night as Burnley were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City despite Ameen Al-Dakhil's late goal.

The defender spent time in AS Canet's youth ranks before joining Montpellier, signing his first professional deal in 2019 and making his senior debut a couple of years later.

Esteve said: “I feel very good, I’m really happy and ever since I first heard about the move I wanted to move here.

“I have followed the Premier League since being a young child and had only pictured myself ever being here, so I am really excited.

“The manager (Vincent Kompany) spoke really positively about the project here and I just wanted to be a part of it straight away.”

Meanwhile, Assignon has progressed through the ranks at Rennes since his arrival in 2015, racking up 60 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit. He also had a loan spell at Bastia.

“I am really happy, it has been a long day and it has been a day of hard decisions but I am very pleased to be here," he said.

“I had a number of clubs to choose from, but I spoke to the manager and straight away knew that I wanted to be here.

“I’m ready to go. It is the best league in the world and I am really excited to be a part of it.”

During the final minutes of the window, Anass Zaroury and Connor Roberts' loan exits to Hull and Leeds respectively were confirmed. However, Manuel Benson remains at Turf Moor despite speculation.
