Sheffield Wednesday are frontrunners to sign Duncan McGuire from Orlando City after a deal to join Blackburn Rovers collapsed.

The American striker is in England after flying over to the UK on Wednesday night. The Lancashire Telegraph reported a fee was agreed between the two clubs.

Rovers had to pull out of the deal over fears Adam Wharton's move to Crystal Palace was going to collapse. Without the money from his sale, the club couldn't have proceeded with the McGuire transfer.

That is no longer the case and he has signed his contract with the Premier League side with an official announcement expected soon.

That raised hopes that the club could re-enter in talks for McGuire but that looks unlikely now. It's understood the 22-year-old is in Sheffield and the Owls are now frontrunners for his signature, with Rovers exploring alternatives.

Of course, things could still change as we've seen in the last 12 hours, the transfer market is volatile.

The club are still working to bring players in to bolster Jon Dahl Tomasson's squad. A forward, defender and midfielder could arrive at Ewood Park before the 11pm deadline.
