Blackburn Rovers are in the market for multiple additions to strengthen their squad on transfer deadline day.

Kyle McFadzean became their fourth January addition on Wednesday, signing on a free transfer from Coventry City until the end of the season. He joins Yasin Ayari, Ben Chrisene and Connor O'Riordan to bolster Jon Dahl Tomasson's options.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands an agreement in principle was agreed for Orlando City forward Duncan McGuire and the player was on a flight over the UK. However, Rovers had to pull out of the deal last night.

Adam Wharton will complete his big-money move to Crystal Palace but there were complications with that deal yesterday. Had the deal fallen through, which was a possibility at one stage, Rovers wouldn't have had the funds to sign McGuire.

The issue with Wharton has now been rectified. He has signed his contract with The Eagles and will be formally unveiled today.

As a result, Rovers can now plough ahead with their own transfer business. A deal for McGuire is not completely dead but the back and forth is unlikely to have increased the chance of him moving to Ewood Park.

Sheffield Wednesday are reported to also want the American's signature and are also desperate for a striker on deadline day. The 22-year-old did travel to England so only time will tell how that story develops.

Another defensive addition has not been ruled out either. Rovers have signed O'Riordan and McFadzean but injuries to Harry Pickering, Hayden Carter and Callum Brittain have left them short of options.

Rovers may also try to strengthen their central midfield options with Wharton leaving. It could be a busy day at the Brockhall Senior Training Centre.

In terms of outgoings, Niall Ennis could leave the club. A deal to join Bolton Wanderers appears dead but Barnsley are still interested, as The LT first reported at the start of the month.

Similarly, there is loan interest in Harry Leonard. It's understood that a striker is unlikely to leave unless someone comes in. But if they sign a striker, it would leave them with five, so someone could go out.

Zak Gilsenan and Jake Batty are among the young players who could depart for first-team football. Jack Vale joined Motherwell for the remainder of the season on Wednesday night.
