Ben Chrisene got his first taste of playing at Ewood Park against Huddersfield – and now the youngster is hungry for more.

Chrisene played just over an hour against the Terriers last weekend before making way as part of a double change.

It was a moment to savour for the Aston Villa loanee, who had previously featured in behind-closed-doors matches.

“It was the best feeling since I have been here,” he beamed. “It has been a bit stop-start so I just wanted to get out and play.

“The result was frustrating, we will take the point but everyone here wants three points. I think we deserved it and that has been a bit of a pattern.

“Since I have joined, people have said there have been games where we have played better than teams but not got three points. That is going to be a target for us in the coming weeks.”

The 20-year-old experienced first-team football at Kilmarnock last season before his loan spell was cut short by injury.

Chrisene is determined to build on his first Rovers start and show what he is capable of in the Championship.

“The main thing for me is just playing, and getting 60 minutes under my belt was what I needed this early,” he continued.

“We will see what happens in the next couple of weeks, with injuries, but for me, I just want to play and hopefully show everyone what I can do.

“The gaffer already spoke about me not playing much in the last couple of months. The main thing for me is building up the fitness and as soon as I have got that foundation, I can really show what I have got.

“I am still not 100 per cent there so when I get there, I think it will be a lot more fun for me and more fun to watch.

“That is why I speak about getting the games under your belt and getting into a rhythm of playing. As soon as you are there, you get more confidence from it. I just need that at the moment.”

More opportunities could be around the corner for the athletic youngster after Harry Pickering was forced off against Huddersfield.

Chrisene is ready to step up when needed but hopes Pickering isn’t out of action for long so the pair can continue to push each other in training.

“I would be delighted (to get a run in the team), but no-one ever wants a team-mate to get injured,” he explained.

“Picks is honestly such a nice guy. Since I came in, there is a little bit of competition but he has been so nice.

“I don’t want him to be injured, I want us to work together and help each other, which is frustrating. But we will see how it is and how it pans out.”
