Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of left-back Ben Chrisene on loan from Aston Villa.

The defender becomes the club's second signing of a chaotic day after the arrival of Yasin Ayari from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 19-year-old has featured for the first time in the FA Cup and has been part of the Premier League matchday squad on several occasions.

He will provide competition for Harry Pickering and could make his Rovers debut against West Brom in the Championship next weekend. Chrisene was not registered in time to play against Cambridge United in the FA Cup third-round.

Tomasson insisted Rovers have a huge month ahead to improve their squad in the January transfer window. Centre-back remains a priority area with James Hill set to return to Bournemouth on Monday.

They also want to bolster the attacking area of the pitch whilst the head coach said Ayari won't be a direct replacement for club captain Lewis Travis.

Rovers’ Director of Football Gregg Broughton said: “We are really happy to make Ben our second signing of the January transfer window.

“Ben made his first team debut for Exeter at the age of 15, before earning his move to Aston Villa and has featured for England throughout the age groups.

“He will bring additional pace and physicality to our backline, and he is very comfortable in possession.

“Ben has spent the first half of this season training with Aston Villa’s first team squad and we are delighted that he has chosen Blackburn Rovers to continue his development.”
