Jon Dahl Tomasson insists he can't rule out exits from Blackburn Rovers in the January transfer window.

The head coach was honest about the need for fresh faces this month after the side extended their poor run of form with a 2-2 draw against Rotherham United. That makes it one win in eight Championship games for Rovers, the worst tally in the league over that period.

Rovers sold Thomas Kaminski to Luton Town in the summer, whilst Tottenham Hotspur triggered a release clause in the contract of Ash Phillips. That helped to bring in around £4.5million to help with the club's cashflow issues.

Those problems haven't disappeared, though Rovers are still expected to be active in the transfer window this month. Naturally, there has also been speculation about players leaving too.

Tomasson couldn't rule out any departures, insisting it is a club decision on whether they accept bids for players.

"My phone isn't ringing!" he joked. "There is always the opportunity that players can leave. It's up to the club to decide that, if they need the money for that.

"We saw some players leave the building in the summer to help get money in the accounts."

If Rovers were to cash in on any of their players, it would at least be their decision because of the proactive work to renew contracts in the last 12 months. Only Sam Gallagher and Tyrhys Dolan have contracts that expire in 2024, though both have one-year options.

With the squad stretched, Tomasson is likely to make changes for Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie with Cambridge United.

The head coach was delighted to have a free week on the training ground after such an intense schedule which saw Rovers play four times in quick succession.

"Now there's a couple of days until the next away game, of course, we have Cambridge first," he said. "This is a period to recharge the batteries because some players need that.

"We'll get the opportunity to get fatigue out of their bodies which is great. Some of the players need that, I see that, everyone sees that.

"We'll have the opportunity to train which is also good. It's a good mix."
