Jon Dahl Tomasson has urged Blackburn Rovers to 'help' the squad with additions in the January transfer window.

Rovers' poor run of form extended to one win in eight Championship matches after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Rotherham United. They twice threw away the lead, with goals from Arnor Sigurdsson and Sam Szmodics putting them in front.

Individual errors and a soft defensive centre have been the biggest issues in this poor fun of results. Leopold Wahlstedt was again at fault for Rotherham's equaliser, whilst Tom Eaves was allowed to head in the equaliser with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Rovers' squad has been exposed over the festive period with four games in quick succession, with only one point collected in that time.

With the January window now open, Tomasson has sent a cry for assistance to the club's hierarchy to get fresh blood into the squad this month.

"We shouldn't forget what our CEO Steve Waggott was saying from the beginning of the season, he was very realistic," Tomasson said on the poor form.

"First of all, it is about staying in the league and then developing players. The cutting of the budget would have an impact on the squad and it has.

"It would be great if we could have a positive impact in the January month which I hope. If you look at the squad, it needs a positive boost with new players.

"We all know we lost proven goal-scorers in the summer, we got unproven goal-scorers in. We have to develop them into proven players.

"We lost experience, Gregg mentioned that we didn't manage to get the experience in. This is normal and you are learning on the job.

"It's been a very difficult period for Rovers behind the scenes, our fans know it. We are sticking together even in this difficult period."

With Venky's issues in India still causing cashflow problems, it's unclear what Rovers have to work with in January. They have triggered the release clause in Connor O'Riordan's contract, which stands at half a million.

Tomasson is hopeful the club will be able to pursue new bodies to help the current squad, which is stretched to the limit, in his eyes.

"I know the players want help, the fans want help and the staff would like help as well," he added. That is up to the club to do that, it is out of my reach.

"I asked in the summer. It's very clear the club, what Steve Waggott has said, he's taken responsibility as CEO and said it. The aim is to stay in the league and develop players.

"Of course, January is going to be an important month for the club. Hopefully, they can help to bring some players in.

"We will get some players back, not now but at the end of the month. Now there is some time to recharge batteries which the players need."
