Former Blackburn Rovers star Bradley Dack has suffered yet another injury setback at Sunderland.

The forward left Rovers in the summer at the end of his contract after six years at the club. He cemented himself as a fans' favourite in that time but after two serious knee injuries, was released to allow him to try and play regular football.

Dack signed for Sunderland to reunite with Tony Mowbray but things haven't worked out for him in the North East. Injuries have again plagued his season, with muscle problems limiting his involvement.

Mowbray has now been sacked and Michael Beale has taken over. He gave the 29-year-old his first start since September against Hull City on Boxing Day, a game they won 1-0.

Dack had been out with a hamstring injury and lasted less than 45 minutes before he went off with the same issue.

"Bradley came off with a hamstring injury and again he will have to go for a scan to see the extent of that," Beale said post-match.

"I feel for Brad because he has missed a lot of football over the last couple of years and even this season it has been a stop-start [for him]."

A hamstring injury kept Dack out for six weeks earlier this year when he was still at Rovers and has been a reoccurring issue since he returned from his second ACL surgery.

The forward has played fewer than 500 minutes for the Black Cats this season, starting five times and scoring once.

Rovers travel to the KCOM Stadium on Friday, with both teams looking to respond to their Boxing Day defeats.

On the Black Cats' defeat, Hull boss Liam Rosenior said: "It's a difficult one to take and the players are frustrated in the dressing room. I sound like a broken record because we need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

"It was an even game between two teams pushing for the top six and they took their chance. We needed to make sure we kept the back door shut and we could have defended Clarke's goal better."
