Jon Dahl Tomasson admitted Blackburn Rovers' 3-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town was their worst performance of the season.

Rovers were comfortably dispatched by a team battling relegation, losing by three goals at the John Smith's Stadium. Jahiem Headley opened the scoring after an error from Leopold Wahlstedt, with the shot allowing to squirm under him and into the net.

That gave Huddersfield all the encouragement they needed. The hosts won every duel and second ball across the pitch, bullying an off-colour Rovers side.

The second goal was another defensive lapse with Sorba Thomas scoring from close range before Delano Burgzorg added the third. The final 20 minutes were an exhibition with Rovers showing nowhere near enough to get back into the game.

Tomasson conceded it was a very poor display and the worst of the campaign. He apologised to the supporters after the game.

"It was a disappointing result and a disappointing performance," he said.

"Huddersfield are around the relegation zone, they are fighting, you need a top performance and we didn't do that.

"It was our worst performance during the season, not one we're used to seeing. I am extremely disappointed. We conceded the first goal, there was initially nothing wrong, and it gave confidence for the crowd and the players.

"Then we're chasing the game. I want to apologise to our fans, almost 3,000 travelling. It wasn't positive today. The only good thing with football is there is another game in a couple of days and that is positive.

"We are playing a team who defend well and they're good in transition. When you concede a goal, you're chasing the game and there are more chances of getting transition moments, that get bigger and bigger.

"We were not able to play through them with one or two touches. We ran with the ball, played it backwards and sideward and not making unselfish runs. That costs games."

Rovers now have the second-worst defensive record in the Championship, conceding 40 times in 24 games. Only Rotherham United, rock-bottom of the table, have leaked more (47).

"When you concede goals, you're not happy," Tomasson added. "Most of the time, when you concede the opponent does something wrong and it might be the quality of the players.

"Every goal is too many. Especially this many. Today was not good, in a lot of the games, we have been able to win but today was the lowest performance of the season, definitely.

"There are no positives when you lose 3-0 and you have 3,000 travelling fans here on Boxing Day."
