The official charity of Blackburn Rovers has announced the date for the fifth edition of the Blackburn 10k at Ewood Park next year.

For the past four years, RunThrough and Blackburn Rovers Community Trust (BRCT) have hosted the run that takes participants round the iconic sites of the city in aid of charity.

RunThrough will organise and deliver the Blackburn 10k on Sunday, December 8, in 2024.

Entry for the event is open now and, with popularity ever-increasing, it is recommended runners secure their place as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Matt Wood, co-founder of RunThrough UK, said: "The annual Blackburn 10k holds a special significance for me personally, returning to my hometown to create an event that celebrates our community's strength and passion for running.

"It was a privilege to partner with BRCT, providing runners with the unique opportunity to run in such an iconic venue and witness the unifying power of sport in bringing our community together.”

On Sunday, December 3, the fourth edition of the event took place on a chilly winter's morning, with hundreds of runners braving the cold to pound the tarmac on the hunt for a personal best or to raise money for charity.

Lancashire Telegraph: As well as starting and finishing inside Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park, the course boasts a picturesque tour of the town, taking in some of its finest sights.

After heading out over the blue and white Wainwright bridge, 1,500 runners breezed past Blackburn Cathedral and King George’s Hall, before heading back out towards Witton and down the home straight back to Ewood Park.

The event village, located at the Blackburn End Stand, enabled spectators to support runners at the same time as enjoy themselves with food, music and entertainment.

Martin Winters, head of operations at Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, said: “It was great to partner with RunThrough to host the Blackburn 10k once again, further strengthening our relationship and commitment to the road race, which starts and finishes inside Ewood Park.

“The event saw more than 1,000 participants raising money for some wonderful charities, including ourselves, the official charity of the football club, enabling us to continue and grow the positive, impactful work we do in the community.

"It was great to see so many different people participate in the race of all running abilities and we are already excited for next year’s event.”
