Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.

Leopold Walhstedt - 8

Didn't have loads to do but made good save to deny Knight from range. Couldn't do much about Sykes' goal from close range. Made some important saves and catches at the end.

Callum Brittain - 6

Back in his more familiar role of right-back and looked far more comfortable. Got forward down the right and provided a threat.

Hayden Carter - 6

It wasn't the greatest of passes into Moran which led to the Bristol City reducing the deficit. Otherwise, a solid game.

Scott Wharton - 9

A fantastic performance. Won every header and duel and capped it off by heading in Rovers' second of the night. Performance have been more consistent after a run in the team.

Harry Pickering - 7

Battled hard against Sykes which was a good duel down the Rovers left.

Sondre Tronstad - 9

Another exceptional display in midfield. Two fantastic sliding tackles on top of excellent interceptions and passing. Looks a real find.

Adam Wharton - 7

Another very good first half followed by a quieter second. Still trying to find that real consistency in performance to be the standout for 90 minutes.

Sam Szmodics - 7

Lovely assist for Sigurdsson with a clever first-time pass around the corner. Worked hard but didn't get much of a chance to score.

Andrew Moran - 5

Struggled, in truth. Touch was loose and he just couldn't get into the game. Gave it away for Bristol City's opener too. He'll have better nights and probably is due a rest.

Arnor Sigurdsson - 8

Took his goal really well. The pass was a tiny bit behind him but he gathered it in his stride and finished calmly. Seemed more confident after that.

Niall Ennis - 6

Taken off at half-time, hopefully in a pre-planned change. The striker took up some decent positions but didn't really get a sight of goal. Let's hope this is the start of him kicking on in his Rovers career.

Substitutes:

Harry Leonard (Ennis, 45')

Struggled to impose himself on the game and didn't hold it up as well as he can. 5

Jake Garrett (Wharton, 73') - 6

Came on to add some extra energy into the midfield.

James Hill (Moran, 73') - 6

On at right-back in a defensive change to try and shore up the defence. Then moved to centre-back.

Lewis Travis (S.Wharton, 83') - N/A

Came on at right-back in the closing stages.
