Blackburn Rovers fans are yearning to see more of Semir Telalovic. After nearly three months at the club, those who regularly watch the youth team have witnessed more than season ticket holders.

It's been a slow start for the summer signing, plucked from Borussia Monchengladbach on transfer deadline day. He arrived with fanfare, mainly because of the protracted wait for the club to add an elusive number nine to bolster their forward line.

Rovers paid a fee, believed to be six figures, to acquire him too. In the context of the club's summer, a decent investment considering the financial backdrop.

But simply looking at the club Rovers signed Telalovic from tells half the story. In reality, he was most recently plying his trade on loan at FV Illertissen, in the fourth tier of German football. That's a big step up to England's second tier, the Championship.

Jon Dahl Tomasson has been patient with Telalovic, preferring to take two steps back to try and move three paces forward. His appearances have been few and far between for the first team, playing 26 Championship minutes since getting half an hour on his debut against Middlesbrough on October 16.

But, as we have seen with other players, it is part of a process to give Telalovic the best chance to succeed. For that to happen, the player needs to buy in as well.

Whenever speaking about the striker, Tomasson has always been quick to praise his application. Telalovic wants to learn and is eager to impress. When playing for Mike Sheron's side, he has done the business

He scored a hat-trick against Stoke City at the start of the month and against Preston North End on Tuesday, he found the net again.

“Like the last time with the U21s, it was good to play 90 minutes again and to score," Telalovic told The Lancashire Telegraph. "I want to help the U21s, and it is also good for me to play the games and have a lot of minutes in the legs. Scoring goals is always good for confidence.

“Sometimes when you don’t play, you kind of lose the feeling. Strikers love to score goals and these games are important.

“I always play with confidence but as I’ve said before, it is a new country for me, a new league and different football. I always try my best and always want to score.”

“I am learning every day in training and when we have meetings," he added. "The way of playing, English football is very fast and physical. Our game is also very specific and our coach wants to play a fast game.

"These games are good for me to show that I can play English football. I knew before that (coming to England) would be a hard challenge but now I have felt it for real, it is really different. But it is a good experience and at my age, I can learn a lot. I hope that I can score for the club in this league and I am excited.

“Life is good, the people are very polite here in England. I live in Manchester, a nice city, and I drive every day with my team-mates who also live there. It is really nice here, a little bit cloudy but nice!”

Telalovic is keen to learn and he certainly has a teacher with pedigree. There is competition for places with Niall Ennis and Harry Leonard, who both started and scored against PNE too, the former scoring a hat-trick. With Sam Gallagher to add back into the mix, Tomasson has options.

For Tomasson, it is about building Telalovic's knowledge of how Rovers play. What he needs from his striker in terms of movement, build-up play and much more.

“When we have meetings, he always speaks with us strikers and he shows us how we can move, how we can use the space and which positions we can score from," he explained. "It helps a lot because we know that he played at a high level and won a lot of titles.

"We listen to him and try our best. I think we are all really different strikers so we can learn from each other. It is always good when you have more players in the same position. You always need to keep going and it is a good thing.”

November is the last international break for four months, with March the next time the season pauses. That's a lot of games for Rovers to contend with, playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday, with the FA Cup thrown in for good measure too.

With the Christmas period fast approaching. Telalovic is hoping his goals for the 21s will earn more minutes in front of Rovers fans.

“I think we now play every three days," he joked. "We need a good start to get the three points and grow as a team. It would be nice to win at Stoke and then we have a home game after that.”
