Arnor Sigurdsson played nearly 60 minutes of Iceland’s 4-2 defeat against Slovakia – but was forced off after a collision.

It appeared to be an impact injury rather than anything more serious, taking a blow to the back of the head in an aerial challenge. He was replaced by former Cardiff midfielder Aron Gunnarsson.

Orri Oskarsson had earlier put Iceland in front but the hosts seized control of the game thanks to Juraj Kucka, Ondrej Duda and a Lukas Haraslin brace. Andri Gudjohnsen pulled one back 16 minutes from time.

Sigurdsson had a frustrating start to his Rovers career after joining from CSKA Moscow on a deal until the end of the season, picking up a groin issue during pre-season.

The 24-year-old eventually made his debut during the 4-3 defeat at Ipswich last month, getting on the scoresheet after just nine minutes.

He was also on target against Cardiff in the Carabao Cup before bagging a brace in the 4-0 victory at Queens Park Rangers in the league.

It remains to be seen whether Sigurdsson will feature in Iceland’s final Euro 2024 qualifier against Portugal on Sunday night (7.45pm). After that fixture, he is due to return to Rovers as Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men prepare for their trip to Stoke City on November 25.

Meanwhile, Adam Wharton started for England Under-20s in their 3-0 defeat against Italy at the Keepmoat Stadium. The young midfielder got an hour under his belt before making way for Oliver Arblaster.

Luis Hasa opened the scoring after 37 minutes and Filippo Missori doubled the lead five minutes from time. Hasa wrapped up the result at the death, slotting home from 12 yards after Missori had been tripped in the box.
