Rotherham United have become the latest Championship club to make a managerial change, sacking Matt Taylor after a 5-0 defeat to Watford.

The Millers were thumped at Vicarage Road in what proved to be Taylor's last game in charge of the club. Rotherham's away form has come under particular scrutiny, having not won on the road in the Championship for more than a year.

At home, they have been more competitive, picking up 10 of their 11 points at the New York Stadium. That included a 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers in August, with Jon Dahl Tomasson's side come from two down to rescue a draw. Rotherham visit Ewood Park on New Year's Day having lost 3-0 in the same fixture last year.

With the South Yorkshire club four points adrift of safety and fan unrest growing, Taylor has now been dismissed. He kept Rotherham up last season after Paul Warne joined Derby County last September, ending a run of six years where the club had been promoted from League One or relegated from the second tier.

“It was felt by myself and the Board that we had to act now by making a managerial change in order to give ourselves the best possible chance of retaining our Sky Bet Championship status this season," said Rotherham owner Tony Stewart.

"We are grateful to Matt for his efforts over the course of the last year and it has not been an easy decision to make. It goes without saying that he leaves with the very best wishes of everyone here at Rotherham United.”

Neil Warnock, who has previously manager Rotherham, has been linked with the post, though local reports suggest he isn't in the frame. The club are expected to make a 'quick appointment' which would suggest an out-of-work candidate.

Taylor is the seven manager to leave a Championship club this season. Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town, Queens Park Rangers, Birmingham City, Bristol City and Millwall have all made changes too.

Tomasson is now the fifth-longest serving manager in the division, having held his post at Ewood Park for around 17 months. Mark Robins, Ryan Lowe, Steven Schumacher and Kieran McKenna are the only bosses to have been in the job for longer. Only three head coaches who started last season's Championship remain at their clubs.
