Jon Dahl Tomasson was disappointed with Blackburn Rovers' defending for the winning goal against Preston North End.

Rovers failed to clear their lines in the 90th minute and Liam Lindsay headed in from close range to give Ryan Lowe's side the derby spoils. It was a second phase set-piece which proved Blackburn's undoing, with Tomasson warning about their physical threat in the build-up to the game.

The Rovers head coach felt the team defended well for large portions of the game but admitted the game was defined by two moments where that wasn't the case. He felt Preston were clinical but his side deserved the three points.

"We are extremely disappointed, we all wanted the result," Tomasson said. "We should have the result if you look at the performance.

"Everyone could see we probably deserved to win but football is like that. It's about taking those opportunities and making sure when you defend those two moments because they didn't have a lot.

"We didn't defend the second phase well enough. Goals go in when you make mistakes as a team. You have to deal with the second and third phases which they're very good at. They have a lot of physicality."

Ched Evans came on for Preston and made a big difference, with Rovers, at times, missing a physcial presence to occupy the opposition's defence. In the first half, players came towards the ball too often and that helped Lowe's side constrict the space in front of the back line and helped to limit space.

In the second half, there were far more penetrative runs in-behind, as seen with Sam Szmodics' equaliser. Tomasson felt that when Rovers did stretch the pitch, they created more clear-cut chances to score.
