Football clubs from East Lancashire have shown their support for the third annual ICON Week 2023.

Players from Championship side Blackburn Rovers and Premier League outfit Burnley FC supported the cause on video.

ICON Week, running from September 25 to 29, raises awareness of infant crying and how to support parents/carers and prevent serious injury, illness, and death of young babies as a result of abusive head trauma from shaking.

For Rovers, Blackburn-born midfielder Adam Wharton, winger Dilan Markanday, defenders Harry Pickering and Joe Rankin-Costello, midfielder Sammie Szmodics, and former England youth international Niall Ennis supported the cause on video.

Burnley were represented on video by winger Anass Zaroury, striker Lyle Foster, defender Ameen Al-Dakhil, and goalkeeper Denis Franchi on video, along with ex-Leeds defender Charlie Taylor and wingers Manuel Benson and Jacob Bruun Larsen.

This year’s ICON Week focused on sharing ideas and best practice, with many webinars taking place throughout to share information.

Monday included a half-hour webinar on the risks of shaking babies, while on Wednesday there was an update about ICON developments in Lancashire.

All the webinars are free to go back and watch either on YouTube or the ICON website.

ICON is a programme adopted by health and social care organisations in the UK to provide information about infant crying, including how to cope, support for parents and carers, and how to reduce stress.
