Jon Dahl Tomasson fears Ryan Hedges could be set for a spell on the sidelines after limping off against Ipswich Town.

The Blackburn Rovers winger was introduced as a half-time substitute but only lasted eight minutes before he had to go off. Hedges was helped off by the physios as he limped away, putting very little weight on his ankle.

Speaking after the match, Tomasson admitted his first fears are that the 28-year-old could be out ‘for a while’ with the injury he sustained. Hedges will go for a scan on Monday to determine the severity of the injury and will update the media on Tuesday.

“I don’t know how long it will take but he’s out, you can see that,” Tomasson said. “He will be out for a while.

“I don’t know how long at the moment, but it didn’t look great, to be honest. We’ll need to wait and see on the medical report and he will probably get a scan on Monday, but he could be out for a bit of time.”

Hedges was replaced by Dilan Markanday at Portman Road and the injury could open up more opportunities for the former Spurs winger. Markanday has been bright in substitute appearances this week but hasn’t started in the Championship since the second matchday at Rotherham.

Tomasson has challenged the young attacker to show more consistency both in training, internal games and matches to prove he should start. He’s likely to start in the Carabao Cup against Cardiff City on Tuesday.

Andrew Moran started on the right against Ipswich whilst Arnor Sigurdsson’s return to fitness is timely should Hedges be out for a sustained period.

Rovers have three more league matches before the international break, taking on Leicester City, Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers after their cup game in midweek.
