Blackburn Rovers will have a clearer picture of Tyrhys Dolan's contract situation by Christmas, according to Gregg Broughton.

Rovers have been in dialogue with the attacker since the beginning of the summer about a new deal. Dolan's contract runs out in 2024, though the club have the option to extend that by 12 months to 2025.

The club are also protected by Dolan's age. If he were to leave on a free transfer, Rovers would be due compensation as he is under the age of 24.

Broughton explained in May that Dolan's negotiations were complicated by a change in agency. As a result, no progress has been made since the summer.

However, once the 21-year-old moves to his new agency in October, Broughton expects talks to pick up. He's hoping the club will have a better idea of his stance by the New Year.

"Not a great deal of movement," Broughton told The Lancashire Telegraph. "His agency agreement runs out on October 1 and then he can go with the new agency.

"I think we'll know very quickly whether he will sign a new contract or not. The big difference to other players that have expired is when his deal expires in two years, he's under 24 so we'll be protected financially from that point of view.

"By January, the situation will be clearer. Right now, I see no dip in his commitment and his enthusiasm has been the same as it has always been. He is vital for our squad moving forward."

After a bright run of performances in February, in the absence of the injured Ben Brereton Diaz, Dolan's form dipped during the run-in last season. He's not made the brightest start to this season either, though not for a lack of effort.

Broughton doens't believes contract talks have made any impact on his performance and insisted Dolan remains a key part of Blackburn Rovers' plans moving forward.

"I'm not sure it has had an impact," Broughton said. "Those contract discussions have never been with him as a player, they have been with his family or his previous agent.

"Tyrhys is a vital part of what we are doing here at Blackburn Rovers and we will continue to support him."

Outside of Dolan, Rovers don't have many pressing contract matters. Sam Gallagher is also out of contract in 2024 but again the club have a one-year option.

Having spent a lot of time tying down their best assets, Rovers are in a healthy position looking at the upcoming summer. Broughton is delighted with their work behind the scenes and believes their proactive approach has aided them in the transfer market.

The Rovers chief did hint that further talks are ongoing and hinted there could be more good news around the corner when it comes to contract renewals.

"If you look at the contract situation, it's very healthy due to the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes over the last 12 months," he said. "There are very few players out of contract next summer or in 2025.

"We are in a very good position. That allows us to hold out for the valuations, as we did with Thomas (Kaminski). It allows us to push back on offers like we did with Lewis Travis. It allows us to say to John Buckley, you can go on loan but we're not interested in a permanent transfer.

"There are more contracts we are working on and hopefully we can release positive news on that over the next few months."
