Jon Dahl Tomasson has important decisions to make as Blackburn Rovers face Middlesbrough at Ewood Park.

The return of the Championship sees Rovers return home after back-to-back away matches before the interntional break. The transfer window has closed too and Tomasson's squad looks far healthier.

Joe Rankin-Costello was passed fit whilst new arrivals James Hill and Semir Telelaovic are in contention. The game comes too soon for Arnor Sigurdsson and Niall Ennis though.

After a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Plymouth, there are a few questions marks across the pitch with personnel. Here's The Lancashire Telegraph's best guess on how Rovers might line-up at 3pm on Saturday.

Goalkeeper

Perhaps the biggest debate is around who should start in goal. Aynsley Pears has been the number one in every league match following the sale of Thomas Kaminski.

However, he didn't cover himself in glory with goals two and three at Home Park, leading to calls for a change from some supporters. Leopold Wahlstedt is yet to make his Championship debut and hasn't really been tested after playing in the 8-0 demolition of Harrogate Town.

When asked about the goalkeeper battle, Tomasson hinted that Pears would retain his place. Whether that's the right decision remains to be seen.

Defence

Tomasson hasn't changed his defence unecessarily this season. Rankin-Costello is back now though, after missing the last two matches with a groin issue.

Callum Brittain has deputised well in his absence, both at left-back and on his prefered side, the right. Harry Pickering is also a firm Tomasson favourite and is rarely on the bench.

Ultimately, it will come down to fitness. If Tomasson thinks Rankin-Costello is ready, he will probably get the nod.

At centre-back, Hill will probably be amongst the substitutes. Dom Hyam and Hayden Carter have struck an impressive partnership and I don't see that being disrupted unecessarily.

Midfield

It's difficult to envisage much change in the middle. Adam Wharton, Lewis Travis and Sam Szmodics seem to be Tomasson's prefered combination.

Sondre Tronstad hasn't shown enough in limited minutes to disrupt those ahead of him. Similarly, Jake Garrett has done well in cup matches but I'd be surprised if he started the game.

Attack

Everyone wants a taste of Semir Telalovic but Rovers' new striker is more likely to start from the bench. Ennis isn't fit so that leaves a toss-up between Sam Gallagher and Harry Leonard, with the former most likely to start.

Ryan Hedges will be on the right despite his gilt-edged miss against Argyle. The question mark is on the left, though Andy Moran is likely to retain his place ahead of the off-colour Tyrhys Dolan.

Blackburn Rovers (4-3-3): Pears; Rankin-Costello, Carter, Hyam, Pickering; Wharton, Travis, Szmodics; Hedges, Moran, Gallagher.
