Stanley have signed midfielder Ben Woods on a one-year contract from Inverness on Deadline Day.

Wigan-born Woods is a product of Manchester United’s youth system and headed to Burnley in 2018, signing his first professional deal at Turf Moor three years later.

The 20-year-old made 29 appearances for the Clarets in Premier League 2 before heading north of the border earlier this year. He went on to play seven times for Inverness.

"Ben has done well, he fits the bill of someone we can work with,” John Coleman told the club website. “He has come through the academies, tried his luck in Scotland, and wants to be closer to home.

"He has the right type of attitude, the right level of ability we want in players, and has a great left foot.

“He is tenacious, a good midfielder, and we are hoping he can have the same impact that Liam Coyle has had."

Woods is delighted to have completed the move and hopes he can show what he is capable of in League Two.

"I am buzzing, I am over the moon. It's a great chance, a great club, and a chance to get my football career off to a roll,” Woods added.

"I have been on trial for a few weeks. I was getting good feedback and the gaffer said he wanted to do something. I can't wait to get going.

"I said at the start of this year, I want to get into the EFL and show everyone what I can do.

"It's a long season and the club had the disappointment of going down last year, but hopefully we will be up there at the end of the season and we will all pulling together to do that.

"I have watched a few games now and I can't wait to run out here. I did play for Burnley here and scored, so hopefully I can do that for Accy now."
