Rovers have no fresh injury concerns ahead of their trip to Plymouth – but Joe Rankin-Costello remains sidelined.

Rankin-Costello has been an important member of Jon Dahl Tomasson’s squad during the opening weeks of the season but was forced off with a groin issue during the 1-0 victory at Watford last weekend.

Callum Brittain is expected to return to the right-back role at Home Park, with Harry Pickering returning at left-back against Harrogate on Wednesday night after serving a one-game suspension.

Jake Batty has trained but Saturday’s fixture against the Pilgrims is likely to come too soon for the young full-back.

“There are no new injuries after Harrogate, which was a great result - the club’s biggest away win ever,” said Tomasson.

“I don’t think we should compare ourselves with all the Rovers legends, of course, but the club has a great history and to be part of that is really nice.

“We have a couple of players who are not available. Joe is not ready. We have young Batty, who has trained a bit. I don’t think he will be ready. Sam Barnes, Jack Vale, Niall Ennis and Arnor Sigurdsson are also not available for this game.

“It has been a busy week so far. We started with a good result at Watford and then a magic night in a cup game, with all those young players getting their first starts and some getting a goal.

“You could see the happiness today. Now we have a third game in a short period, and another away game.”

The Rovers boss admits having another long journey on the team coach isn’t ideal but hopes his side can pull together and get more points on the board against Steven Schumacher’s side.

“When we arrive back here at Brockhall (after Plymouth), the boys will have probably spent more than 24 hours on the bus in the last six days.

“It is not the best situation and I don’t think it happens in many places in the professional sports world.

“But sometimes when there are challenges for people, they stick together more. Even with all the travelling, I think my boys will step on the pitch to win the game.

“We are facing a new side in the league and they had a great home record last season. They have played some good games so far and it is a good challenge for my team. I am really looking forward to it.”

Sigurdsson is yet to make his first appearance in a Rovers shirt after joining from CSKA Moscow over the summer.

When asked if he was ready to take part in training games, Tomasson replied: “Not yet. Of course, we have the break after Plymouth and when we get back, I will give three or four days off.

“There will be a couple of players who travel away, which is really good for the club.

“Hopefully, Arnor can then start training a bit and get some minutes but it is step-by-step. He is going in the right direction which is really positive.”
