Jon Dahl Tomasson says the 8-0 win at Harrogate is an occasion the youngsters will never forget – but insists they must be hungry for more.

Tom Bloxham and James Edmondson both scored on their senior debuts, while Tom Atcheson also came off the bench.

John Buckley bagged a brace against the League Two side, with Jake Garrett, Sam Gallagher, Dilan Markanday and Zak Gilsenan also getting on the scoresheet.

“They are not going to forget it and they also want more,” said Tomasson. “That is the most important thing, you should never be satisfied with less.

“When you get the taste of it, you should run through walls every day to become better.”

The Rovers boss is keen to give the club’s young talent plenty of game time to continue their development in the coming weeks and months, even if it is behind the scenes.

“I arrange games every week so every player is up to speed,” he continued.

“If you are young or if you are – I won’t say older because the oldest in my squad is 28 – but they will always get a good programme from a physical point of view, but also for their development.

“That means game time internally in friendlies against the first team, against the Under-18s and all those things.”

Tomasson has handed out a number of debuts to youngsters since his arrival in East Lancashire and admits it is something he takes pride in.

The Dane is pleased to see the club’s young prospects embracing the “identity” he wants to instil at Rovers and believes their hard work on the training pitch is paying off.

“As a head coach, you want to see the identity of the team and I think you can see that, even with the youngest I have been working with,” he explained.

Leo Wahlstedt made his first appearance in a Rovers shirt after joining from Norwegian club Odds BK over the summer following Thomas Kaminski’s move to Luton.

The Swedish goalkeeper made a couple of good stops during the first half and looked comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Wahlstedt will now be eager to push Aynsley Pears, who has had a positive start to the campaign, for the number one jersey at Ewood Park.

“He made one big save and that was great to see,” said Tomasson. “It is always good to get your first minutes, he played an internal game first and then a friendly.

“Now we get the real stuff and it is always different, there is a bit more pressure. But I think he did well and it was an excellent performance from the rest of the team.”
