Ex-Blackburn Rovers man Rhodes joins Blackpool on loan

Rhodes scored 85 goals during a memorable three-and-a-half-year spell in East Lancashire, becoming a popular figure among supporters.

The 33-year-old also had spells at Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich among others.

He arrives at Bloomfield Road as Neil Critchley’s side aim to bounce back from last season’s relegation to League One.

"I'm really looking forward to being here and to be working with these players and all of the staff,” Rhodes told the club website.

"I think this is a club that will be up there at the right end of the division come the end of the season, and I'm looking forward to playing my part in that."

Blackpool have taken six points from their opening four league games, including a 2-0 victory against Burton on the opening day.

Critchley added: “We are delighted to bring Jordan to Blackpool, who has a proven track record of scoring goals.

“His record speaks for itself, whilst his knowledge of this league and what is required will prove to be vital during his time with us.

“He provides another option in the final third and we are all looking forward to working with him.”

Connor Mahoney, another ex-Rovers player, has joined League Two Gillingham on a season-long loan from Huddersfield.

Mahoney arrived from Accrington Stanley and made his first-team debut in January 2014 at just 16 years of age.

However, the winger went on to make just six league starts for the club before joining Bournemouth in the summer of 2017.

He made just two FA Cup appearances for the south coast outfit and also had loan spells at Barnsley and Birmingham.

Mahoney made the move to Millwall in 2019 and played more than 50 times before joining Huddersfield on a free transfer last summer.

Gillingham currently sit top of the League Two table, having won all four of their fixtures since the start of the campaign.

Neil Harris’ side are back in action this weekend when they welcome Colchester United to the Priestfield Stadium.
