Burnley midfielder Josh Cullen has put pen to paper over a new three-year deal at Turf Moor.

The Republic of Ireland international follows Anass Zaroury and Manuel Benson, who also penned new deals earlier this month.

Cullen joined the Clarets from Anderlecht last summer, having already played under Vincent Kompany in Belgium.

The 27-year-old played a key role last season as Burnley clinched the Championship title and secured an immediate return to the top flight, making 50 appearances in all competitions.

He won the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year prizes in his first season in East Lancashire and captained the side against Manchester City on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign.

“I’m really happy to extend my time here, especially off the back of last year which was a really successful year for the club,” said Cullen. “I can’t wait to continue my career with Burnley.

“It will be great to get back to Turf Moor this weekend and be in front of the fans again and hopefully get our first three points on the board.”

Kompany’s side are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Aston Villa to Turf Moor (2pm).

Unai Emery’s side ran out 4-0 winners against Everton at Villa Park over the weekend after goals from John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey and Jhon Duran.
