Jon Dahl Tomasson has challenged his Rovers side to be “dominant” with the ball.

Tomasson’s side came from two goals down to claim a point at Rotherham over the weekend after a spirited comeback in the second half.

Rovers had more than 70 per cent of the possession at the New York Stadium, and the boss insists winning the ball back quickly is key to their approach.

“I want to have the ball a lot and I want to create chances so when we don’t have it, I want to win it back quickly,” he said.

“You also have an opponent who is good, they can play football and defend. We also need to entertain, of course.

“I would have rather won 3-2 and with all those chances we had, we should probably have scored more goals.

“But on the other hand, being behind and playing a poor first half, I think we should be satisfied.

“It was great to see our fans, almost 2,000 of them, getting behind the team. I think they enjoyed it in the end. They are disappointed, like we are, but there is a great togetherness.”

Ahead of the game, Tomasson revealed he was looking forward to seeing how his young squad would handle heading to a tough place like Rotherham.

The boss was pleased with the reaction in the second half but admits some of his younger players are still “learning on the job”.

“I was curious how we would cope coming to this difficult place with an extremely young squad,” he continued.

“Our starting line-up was below 23 years of age (on average). We didn’t cope with it in the first half but the mentality was excellent in the second half.

“I would have loved to see a repeat of the performance against West Brom, but we can’t expect too much of all those young players. Some of them are learning on the job.”
