Jon Dahl Tomasson admits there was a sense of frustration his Rovers side didn’t take all three points after coming from behind against Rotherham.

Sam Szmodics missed a penalty in the first half and the hosts went ahead through goals from Hakeem Odoffin and Fred Onyedinma.

Onyedinma was then shown a bizarre second yellow card before Szmodics scored twice in quick succession to get his side back on level terms.

“It was a bit of a roller-coaster but it was entertaining for the fans,” said Tomasson. “I think we are disappointed and frustrated that we are not coming away with three points.

“But on the other hand, when you are 2-0 down in an away game, you probably would take it.

“We didn’t do enough of the right things in the first half. We played too slow again. There weren’t enough runs, we didn’t play forwards enough and didn’t switch play enough. I was not happy with that.

“We had the biggest chance in football, we shouldn’t forget that. If we score that penalty, it would be a different game.

“We know they are good at set-plays and they scored an unnecessary goal. Then we know they want to kill the game, time wasting, and we saw that last season as well.

“But I must give all the credit to my lads. They were working hard and got two well deserved goals. If you look at all the chances, it is a bit of a mystery we are not coming away with three points.”

Tomasson hailed Szmodics’ character for staying determined and trying to impact the game after a tough first half.

“Sammie is a great lad,” the boss continued. “We know you can miss a penalty, I missed them myself. It is a nightmare when you are miss, you are disappointed.

“Then you have different characters - you have people who want to sit on the bench and you have people who want to go through.

“He wanted to go through and you could see that with all the things he did. He scored two excellent goals.”

Joe Rankin-Costello was used higher up the pitch during the final half hour, with Callum Brittain slotting into the backline.

“He pushed forward and I think we got a bit of joy from our right-hand side with Callum and Joe, creating a lot of difficult and dangerous moments for the opponents,” said Tomasson.
