Antwerp goalkeeper Jean Butez is ready to take the "next step” amid links with a move to Turf Moor.

The 28-year-old Frenchman helped the club win the Belgian top flight for the first time in 66 years last term, claiming the Golden Glove award after keeping 20 clean sheets in total.

Butez made the move to Belgium from Mouscron in 2020 and was previously on the books at hometown club Lille.

Antwerp chief executive Sven Jacques says the club will not block a move for the shot stopper this summer as long as “the right price” is offered.

“Jean had his best season ever,” he told the Belgian press. “At the age of 28, he has reached a good age to make a transfer and (he has) already indicated that he wants to take the next step.

“If that opportunity comes, we will not block Jean – provided that the right price is offered.”

Anderlecht youngster Bart Verbruggen has also been linked with the Clarets in recent weeks but now looks set to join Premier League rivals Brighton.

Manchester City prospect James Trafford was also mentioned as a potential target as Vincent Kompany’s side prepare for life back in the top flight.

The 20-year-old had an impressive loan spell at Bolton in League One last term and is currently representing England at the European Under-21 Championship in Georgia and Romania.

Trafford has already insisted he cannot afford to be sat on the bench next season as he continues his development.

Earlier this summer, the youngster told the national press: “The most important thing for goalies is to be playing and if you’re not playing, it is really tough.

"Next season I’ll play every week. I can’t sit on the bench.”

He added: “My long-term goal is playing in the Champions League and for England. If you want to be in the Champions League you’ve got to be in the top four teams in England.

“Whether it’s Man City or any other of the big clubs, I believe I will be at that level. Given the opportunity, I’d be able to perform.”
