Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee has hinted he would be open to a move to Burnley this summer.

The 22-year-old played under Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht during a loan spell from Bayern Munich in the 2021/22 campaign. He scored 18 goals in 45 matches for the Belgian outfit.

Zirkzee is now at Italian top flight club Bologna, having made 21 appearances in all competitions last season.

He has also represented the Netherlands at Under-21 level and is currently playing in the European Championship in Georgie and Romania.

When asked about a potential reunion with Kompany, the forward told Het Nieuwsblad: “Has Kompany called yet? No, although I am in contact with many other Burnley staff.

“Not necessarily about a transfer, but if Vinny calls it might open a door that I would like to walk through.”

Zirkzee made 12 appearances for Bayern and featured against Tottenham in the Champions League.

The highly-rated 22-year-old also had a loan spell at Parma before moving to Italy on a permanent basis.

He has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Everton, Fulham, Newcastle and West Ham all credited with an interest at one stage.

Meanwhile, Arijanet Muric is optimistic Burnley can show what they are capable of in the top flight next season.

Muric was an important member of Kompany’s side last season as the Clarets clinched the Championship title, passing the 100-point milestone following a comfortable 3-0 victory against Cardiff on the final day.

“I’m trying to do my best to improve every day,” the towering goalkeeper told the club’s YouTube channel.

“Of course, it’s the best league and I hope we compete and do our best. I think we can do this, we’re a good team.”

There has been plenty of speculation over the goalkeeping situation at Turf Moor ahead of the upcoming season.

Anderlecht youngster Bart Verbruggen had been linked with a move to East Lancashire after impressing in the Belgian top flight. However, the promising shot stopper now looks set to join Premier League rivals Brighton.

Manchester City’s James Trafford and Antwerp’s Jean Butez are among the other names linked with the Clarets, while Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s future is also uncertain.

When asked how it would feel to play in the Premier League, Muric grinned: “I’ll tell you how I feel if I start!”
