Rovers remain in talks with Tyrhys Dolan over a new contract – though a resolution is complicated by the player changing representatives.

Dolan has become a popular figure at the club since his arrival three years ago and has had an impressive appearance record, playing 125 times in all.

He featured 48 times in 2022/23, with only Ben Brereton playing more times than the 21-year-old who is into the final year of his current contract.

Rovers have an option to extend that by a further 12 months, through to 2025, but are looking to avoid a reliance on those as seen by the proactive approach to contract renewals within the last year.

That has seen them open talks with Dolan over a longer-term extension, understood to be four years, with the club looking for him to be latest to sign fresh terms.

However, director of football Gregg Broughton has revealed that those talks have slowed somewhat given that Dolan has switched agents during the process.

Nevertheless, the expectation is that they will reach a positive conclusion to continue Dolan’s time at the club.

He has played 125 times across the last three seasons, contributing 14 goals and 13 assists.

More than half of his appearances have come as a substitute, with Dolan aiming to be involved more from the start next season, a fact that could be helped by the departure of Ben Brereton.

Some of his best form over the last 12 months has come when operating from the left flank, including the FA Cup win at Leicester City, a position that Rovers’ Chile international has previously filled.

However, with the top scorer of the last two seasons having now moved on, that could offer an opening for Dolan to stake a more regular spot on the left side of the Rovers attack.

Brereton was infact the only player to feature more than Dolan in 2022/23, and the England youth international has had a strong fitness record since joining the club in 2020 following his release by Preston North End.

His impressive start to life at the club saw him handed a new long-term deal in February 2021, and is that three-and-a-half year contract which is due to expire next summer.

Dolan will want terms that will reflect his standing within the squad, having been a near ever-present in the matchday squad at least, a theme that continued under Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Rovers will target three new attackers in the summer transfer window, but are planning to have Dolan as a part of their new-look frontline for next season.

Top scorer Brereton and talisman Bradley Dack have left at the end of their contracts, while loanee Sorba Thomas retuned to parent club Huddersfield Town.

It leaves Rovers with voids to fill in attack, with planned long-term option George Hirst having left in January despite signing a season-long loan, with the option to buy, last summer.
